The monologue O Imortal (The Immortal) premieres nationally at CCBB in Brasília. The homonymous tale by Argentine writer Jorge Luis Borges comes to life on stage with acclaimed actress Gisele Fróes.
A woman receives from an antiquary the six volumes of Homer’s English translation of the Iliad. Inside the sixth volume, she discovers a hidden manuscript. It is the autobiographical story of Marco Flaminio Rufo, military tribune of the Roman Empire, who in the third century AD went searching for the City of the Immortals and the river that would purify from death anyone who drank from its waters.
Jorge Luis Borges published “The Immortal” in 1949 within the collection of short stories “The Aleph”. The stage play that opens season in Brasilia in March investigates the multiple meanings of mortality and immortality in the work of the Argentine writer.
